ALTADENA — Officials Thursday announced a suspect is being sought in connection with the brutal slaying of 4-year-old Salvador Esparza III, which occurred in Altadena.

The Altadena homicide, which had previously been reported as a drive-by shooting, followed an argument between neighbors near the house in the 300 block of Figueroa Drive where the slaying occurred. Officials said the boyfriend of the child’s mother, who has no relation to Salvador, was involved in an argument with neighbors sometime before gunfire occurred.

Following the homicide, the suspect, who has not been identified,  fled the scene. Officials said the man was last seen running south on Olive Avenue before entering a dark colored vehicle that sped away south on Olive Avenue, according to officials.

The slain child was a resident of Monrovia. A GoFundMe account has been started to pay for burial.
