Applebee’s in Monrovia has closed, officials announced on Wednesday Oct. 4, 2016

City officials announced Wednesday that Applebee’s Restaurant in the Huntington Oaks Shopping Center will be “shutting down their operations in short order.”

The restaurant is a 5,400 square facility that first opened in the mid-1990s.  It was closed Wednesday afternoon. Applebee’s officials were unavailable for immediate comment. In March the company closed a store in Livermore, Calif. Several other closures of restaurants in the popular chain occurred in 2007 and 2013.

“Our planning and our economic development teams are engaged in assessing what other restaurant / food options might be possible at the site,” City Manager Oliver Chi wrote in his weekly newsletter. “City staff has already been engaged in discussions with representatives from the property owner about possible replacements for the location.  We will be monitoring this matter closely.”

A Facebook page promoting the restaurant has been removed.
