A large bear was seen running through north Pasadena neighborhoods this morning by residents. According to Facebook posts by Pasadena Now, the bear was captured on the 1000 block of Atchison Street.

Luckily, there were no injuries. Authorities with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife tranquilized the animal without injuring it.

Bears often wander into Pasadena, but are usually looking for food in the trash or an open pool to cool off, Pasadena Fire Department Press Information Officer Lisa Derderian told Pasadena Now.

But in May, one broke into one Pasadena resident’s backyard and killed a pet rabbit. That bear managed to escape authorities. An attack such as this is rare, but authorities nevertheless urge residents not to approach wildlife, and call law enforcement or the Pasadena Humane Society instead.

“Leave it to the professionals,” said Derderian.
