Brad Dover to be named Monrovia Fire Chief
Monrovia City Manager Oliver Chi announced on Tuesday that he plans to make Interim Fire Chief Brad Dover the permanent head of the Monrovia Fire Department. Dover said that the full announcement will probably come in early September.
“I have no doubt and absolute confidence that Brad will serve Monrovia with great distinction as our Fire Chief,” Chi said in a statement.
Dover has served as Interim Fire Chief since February. Since then, he’s led an update in department management, promoting a new division chief and two captains. Dover said he places an emphasis on streamlining management and removing bureaucratic roadblocks to effective operations. This has allowed him to move quickly when disaster threatens Monrovia.
In July, Dover was vacationing with family in Hawaii when the San Gabriel Complex fire broke out. He immediately flew back to Monrovia. Dover spent the next few days coordinating with county officials to ensure the town’s safety.
While others might blink at the thought of cutting a vacation short, it’s all part of the job for Dover. He said that improvements to the department’s operations will continue once he’s officially named Fire Chief.
“We really want the employees here to succeed, and the community to be a good place to live,” Dover said.
