Duarte halts school closures
The Duarte Unified School District will not be closing any schools, district officials said on Friday night.
According to district spokeswoman Jenny Owen, Valley View Elementary School cannot undergo construction needed to expand to a K-8. This year’s Fish Fire increased mudslide risk in the area, and construction is impossible for at least three years. However, district officials stressed that absolutely no decisions have been made as of yet.
More details will come at the Sept. 22 Duarte Board of Education Meeting.
“So it looks like all our current schools will remain open,” Owen said.
It is unknown at this time whether this means that Valley View would have been closed without this development. The Foothill Advocate is currently investigating the matter, and will have more information soon.
