Slain toddler’s family creates fund

The family of a Monrovia toddler killed in an Altadena drive-by shooting set up Go Fund Me page to help pay for his burial.

A smiling photo of Salvador Esparza III is attached to the page with the caption “R.I.P. Chavita.”

“Last night July 5, 2016 Chavita was taken away from his mother,grandparents, aunts and everyone else that loved him. He was always smiling. Please anything will help.”

Maria Adela Villafuerte of Duarte created the page. It includes a fundraising goal of $2,500.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Lt. John Corina said that the boy was sitting on the front porch of a house in the 300 block of Figueroa Drive, when he was gunned down. A 27-year-old man was wounded in the  10: 30 p.m. attack. No arrests have been made.

The victims were discovered by a deputy about 20 minutes after the incident, sheriff’s Deputy Trina Schrader said.

Authorities also said that the man was a family friend, and had no relation to Esparza. It’s unknown if the shooting was gang-related, authorities said. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Lt. John Corina that it was unclear what lead up to the shooting or if there was more than one suspect involved.
