MALDEF to be discussed at City Council
The regular session of the Monrovia City Council for August 16 has been cancelled. Although the meeting is cancelled, the Council discuss the threat of litigation from the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) during a closed session.
MALDEF has threatened to sue the city if it doesn’t convert to a district-based electoral system voluntarily. MALDEF also demanded a response by August 24. City Manager Oliver Chi said in an email that the City Council will be discussing the matter this week, and official documents indicate that the city attorney believes that the threat is serious.
