Steve Mermell’s six figure salary to be approved tonight
The Pasadena City Council could finalize City Manager Steve Mermell’s salary of $275,000 during Monday night’s City Council meeting. When Mermell accepted the position on July 11, contract negotiations were still pending.
Mermell’s employment is estimated to cost about $404,099, according to official documents. This includes Mermell’s salary and benefits. Unless a member of the public requests it public discussion, Mermell’s compensation will be approved in a single vote along with 22 other items on the consent calendar. Mermell worked in various Pasadena city departments for 27 years, starting as an administrative analyst at Pasadena Water and Power. According to his bio on the City of Pasadena website, he served as in a variety of roles in the Finance Department before becoming an assistant city manager under former Pasadena City Manager Michael J. Beck.
When Beck resigned in February, Mermell took on the role of Interim City Manager while the City Council searched for a permanent replacement, and he was eventually offered the job.
