Monrovia Days annual carnival returns

Monrovia’s annual birthday party will include a carnival in 2017.

The annual Monrovia community birthday party and Monrovia Days annual carnival will celebrate talented youth under the theme of “Scholars and Champions May 20-21.

For 2017 the city will bring back the Monrovia Days annual carnival that accompanied the event for many years.

Other favorite features will take place as well. Among them will be the Pancake Breakfast, the Monrovia Days Parade, youth performances, carnival food and the annual Monrovia Pie Eating Contest.

Weekend highlights will include a beer garden, a performance by “Company B — a Tribute to the Andrews Sisters”and dancing until 9 p.m. under the stars. The event kicks off at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 20 and runs through 6 p.m. on Sunday May 21.

The community festival and carnival will not only celebrate scholars and champions, hometown heroes will also be honored. The event is sponsored by the city of Monrovia, the Monrovia Unified School District and Centre Stage. More information is available at MonroviaDays.org.

Civic groups are encouraged to participate in the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. sharp on Saturday May 20.
