Monrovia discusses legal marijuana
The Southern California News Group, which manages the Pasadena Star-News and San Gabriel Valley Tribune, will host a town-hall meeting tonight 6:30 p.m., in the Monrovia Community Center on legal marijuana and other topics.
Titled “Pot, Public Safety, and Prison: How California’s Ballot Propositions Impact Our Community,” the forum will cover Propositions 57 (early parole / early criminal release), 62 (death penalty repeal), 64 (recreational marijuana use legalization), & 66 (death penalty process changes to speed up executions), all of which will affect local law enforcement and public safety issues.
Panelists will include Monrovia Mayor Tom Adams, President of the Professional Peace Officers Association Brian Moriguchi and President of the Chief Probation Officers of California Chief Mark Bonini. Another panelist will be former police lieutenant Diane Goldstein, a narcotics and gang expert with over 21 years of experience. She’s been critical of the war on drugs.
“Until we critically analyze our drug enforcement laws and policies we will continue to see men and women lose their lives for a cause that only 7 percent of Americans believe is a success,”
Goldstein wrote in a 2013 article for the Huffington Post.
The town hall will be moderated by Brian Calle and Larry Wilson, editors at the Southern California News Group. Those interested in attending can submit questions at bit.ly/scng-communityforum.
