Monrovia renews Blue Star honors
Monrovia will unveil new banners commenting Blue Star families — those who have sent their children to the military.
The new banners will be unveiled in November, officials said.
Monrovia’s banner program began in Jan. 2002 as part of the city’s Salute to Service program. Salute to Service recognizes and honors the men and women from Monrovia who are serving on active duty.
“Since the program’s inception, a total of 298 active duty military personnel have received a certificate of recognition,” City Manager Oliver Chi explained in a newsletter sent Tuesday. “Each individual recognized receives a blue star window display, a spirit box, a lifetime membership to Foothill Gym, and a thank you letter from the entire community signed by the City Council.
Blue Star Banners will hang on Huntington Drive.
