Pasadena considers Olympic soccer
The Pasadena City Council Monday will consider allowing the Rose Bowl to host Olympic soccer games if the quadrennial games come to Los Angeles in 2024.
A Rose Bowl Operating Committee report claims there will be “no financial exposure for the RBOC and the City of Pasadena, and the primary direct revenue source will be in the form of capital improvements to be funded by LA24 (Los Angeles 2024 Exploratory Committee).”
Included in the RBOC recommendation is a finding that the Olympic soccer use is exempt from environmental review. Residents living near the Rose Bowl have a history of wanting to limit the number of events due to concerns such as traffic and noise in their neighborhoods.
Approval of the recommendations by the council will allow the Rose Bowl to negotiate agreements with the Los Angeles 2024 Exploratory Committee (LA24) for Olympic soccer games.
City council meetings begin at 6:30 pm at City Hall. The full agenda can be accessed online at http://ww2.cityofpasadena.net/councilagendas/council_agenda.asp
