Pasadena Trump protest rally set Saturday

Rep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena, will be among those attending an 8 a.m. rally Saturday at Pasadena City Hall.

While conservatives across the country will be celebrating the inauguration of Donald Trump this weekend, progressives will be holding the first major rallies against his presidency, and that resistance is headed to Pasadena.

San Gabriel Valley women (and their allies) will hold a rally at Pasadena City Hall on Saturday at 8 a.m. Called the “Rally on the Rotunda,” the march will then proceed to the nearby Metro Gold Line stop, and join in on the Los Angeles march from Pershing Square to Los Angeles City Hall.

Marches like it will take place across the country Saturday. The Pasadena anti-Trump march was organized to coincide as a show of solidarity.

“We do not need to reinvent the wheel,” organizer Désirée Zamorano said. “There are advocacy groups that have been going on for years and years.”

The event is open to anyone who would like to participate, and is meant to be a “safe space.”

Despite Friday’s rain, skies are expected to be clear and temperatures are predicted to be in the 50s. Organizers said the event is not a protest.

“Ours is a rally, not a march,” Zamorano said. “This is a rally so people can understand that they’re not alone.”

Among those expected to attend the Pasadena rally areRep. Judy Chu, D-Pasadena, Sheri Bonner, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Pasadena, and several public officials and union leaders.
