Registration opens for Community Services classes
Registration began on Monday for classes taught through Community Services in Monrovia. Classes will begin on September 12, but registration won’t close until October 16.
Although registration has just started, Monrovia Recreation Specialist Vanessa Ibanez says that she expects hundreds to sign up in the coming weeks. A full roster of classes can be found in the most recent issue of Monrovia Today on pages 32-41.
“We’re usually pretty good about filling up all the classes offered,” Ibanez said.
New classes this year include healthy cooking and traditional karate for kids over 6. Adults will also have new classes to take advantage of, including landscape painting and two courses on calligraphy. Old favorites such as mindfulness meditation, body sculpting and and a plethora of sports and dance classes have returned. There is also a notary public training class, where interested parties can pay $164 to be certified as a notary public.
Classes range in price from $39 to $183. Although classes are open to anyone who registers, non-residents will be charged a $5 fee. All fees are split between the city and the instructor, with the instructor taking home 60 percent of all revenue. All instructors have been vetted by the city in an application and interview process.
“We’re looking for new and interesting classes,” Ibanez said. “We want new and exciting [instructors] to come in.”
