After an absence spanning several decades, trophies will return Pasadena’s annual Rose Parade, officials announced Thursday.

A Sterling silver cup designed in Connecticut will be presented to the parade’s Sweepstakes Award winner. The new trophy is given to the parade’s most spectacular float.

“We are reinstituting tradition,” said Terry Madigan, chair of the Tournament of Roses judging committee.

Other announcements at an event for float builders included the news that both the NHL and Ragu spaghetti sauce will be entering floats in the parade.

The 2017 Parade takes place Jan. 2.
